Join the Dallas-Fort Worth Urban League in advancing equity and progress across our region.
The DFW Urban League is launching a new era of empowerment as the 93rd affiliate of the National Urban League. The 93 Givers are the cornerstone of this movement—a special group of founding supporters whose commitment will directly fund our most critical programs from day one, from job readiness to housing stability. Your gift today builds the foundation for a stronger DFW tomorrow.
The National Urban League (NUL), a civil rights organization working to direct services and policy advocacy to address racial disparities, was founded in 1910 to elevate living standards for Black Americans and other marginalized groups. The organization now has 92 affiliates across the United States that promote economic empowerment through education and job training, housing and community development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, health and quality of life.
Dallas-Fort Worth currently has the largest Black population in the United States without an Urban League affiliate (American Community Survey, 2022). Recognizing the significance of this, DFW YP began work to establish a local affiliate. The DFW YP was given the green light by the national office to develop one – the first time an NUL YP chapter was entrusted to do so. Subsequently, a sponsoring committee and a campaign to establish a DFW Urban League was launched. This committee of civic, nonprofit, higher education and business leaders has focused on long-term sustainability and effective leadership to ensure the new affiliate will help bring about greater economic mobility and a better quality of life for Black and other marginalized residents of North Texas.
Since launching their campaign, the sponsoring committee has gained support from leading funders and corporations dedicated to racial equity in North Texas, including Communities Foundation of Texas, Moody Foundation, Dallas Foundation, Vistra Energy, Frost Bank and Matthews Southwest. With this backing, the DFW Urban League is positioned to achieve affiliate status in 2025.
The new DFW Urban League will promote economic empowerment,
quality of life and social justice by increasing access to opportunities
for Black and other underserved communities.
Increase economic empowerment, a primary focus of the DFW Urban League will be creating critical educational and up-skilling opportunities that enable higher-paying jobs and upward mobility to Black workers.
Improve quality of life, DFW Urban League will be ambassadors for Black families, culture, and equality, designing and implementing programs to elevate the overall experience for Black families, including an explicit focus on housing, health and wellness, and access to services and amenities that support strong and self-sustaining families and communities.
Advance advocacy, DFW Urban League will serve as a thought leader, research investigator, advocate, and community organizer. The focus will be to remove racial barriers, end systemic racism and oppression, while mentoring and educating a next generation of leaders that advance equity and inclusion.
